A prequel to the original Dune, it chronicles how the Sisterhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using her voice is from a so-called “Mentats of Dune.” All three books intertwine the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. This spin-off is more like Game of Thrones than Dune.
This is a fantastic spin-off of a beloved film franchise
That said, Dune: Prophecy is everything I hoped it would be and more. I should start by saying that I have never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune films that came out in the last few years starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
I love them both, so I had high expectations for this series
Those two films (especially Dune: Part Two) are two of my favorite films that I have seen in the last few years. Dune: Prophecy is a series that takes place 10,000 years before the start of the Dune films and tells the story of how the Harkonnen sisters founded the Bene Gesserit as a fighting force that threatens the future of humanity. The series may feel more Game of Thrones than Dune, but either way… it’s a lot of fun.
You don’t have to have seen the two Dune films to appreciate it, but you will definitely appreciate it more if you have
The most important thing about this show is that it does exactly what it sets out to do, which is deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit.
