Series, medium length telephoto
Story
Follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist built on exposing wrongdoing in long-respected institutions.. Gary Oldman was originally rumored to star, but was replaced by Kevin Kline.. In several episodes, Jonathon uses the same lens.
At its core, this is a revenge story
Such a lens will not be able to focus on close-up subjects, taking a selfie with Sasha or in the bedroom with Catherine. I had no idea what I was in for when I started watching the AppleTV+ limited series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. "Disclaimer" Based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, it was written and directed for the screen by Alfonso Cuarón.
The audience is told (sometimes in vivid detail) "events" Catherine’s past
Blanchett stars as Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past resurface in alarming fashion, forcing her to confront that past as it destroys her entire life. Blanchett, as always, is fantastic here and Kline gives a solid performance as well. It was surprising to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did justice to it.
But boy am I glad I was there
Despite a couple/minor nitpicks, I highly recommend this series if you like character dramas with some extra tension/curiosity. Note: There are some pretty graphic depictions of sex/intimacy throughout the various episodes. This isn’t action-packed, and at the end I’m "hooked" On to the story.
